Blake is driving home from the water park. He drives for 60 miles and stops to rest before driving 20 more miles. Unfortunately,

Blake remembers he was supposed to pick up a present for his friend on the way home, so he turns around and drives 36 miles back towards the water park. Once he picks up the present, he drives the rest of the way home, which is 70 miles away. What is the distance from the water park to Blake's home?

Answer:

Distance from the water park to Blake's home = 114 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

We need to find distance from the water park to Blake's home.

First Blake drives for 60 miles and stops to rest.

Displacement = 60 miles

He drives 20 more miles.

Displacement = 60 + 20 = 80 miles

He turns around and drives 36 miles back towards the water park

Displacement = 80 - 36 = 44 miles

He drives the rest of the way home, which is 70 miles away.

Displacement = 44 + 70 = 114 miles

So displacement from water park to Blake's home = 114 miles.

Distance from the water park to Blake's home = 114 miles

Pierre deposits $9,000 in a certificate of deposit that pays 1.4% interest, compounded semi-annually.
Elenna [48]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  • interest: $63
  • balance: $9063

Step-by-step explanation:

After 6 months, the interest accrued is ...

  I = Prt

  I = $9000·0.014·(6/12) = $63

This is added to the principal to get the balance at that point in time.

  $9000 +63 = $9063

__

The interest earned in the first 6 months is $63. The balance after 6 months is $9063.

_____

The compound interest formula will give you the same result for one compounding period. It tells you the balance is ...

  A = P(1 +r/n)^(nt)

where n is the number of times interest is compounded in a year (2), and t is the number of years (1/2). For annual rate r = 1.4%, this is ...

  A = $9000(1 +0.007)^(2×1/2) = $9000·1.007 = $9063

Length x width is the formula.
so 18 x 18 for 7.
22 x 24 for 8.
and 8 would probably be 5 x 5 to equal 20. so the length and width would be 5 and 5 because 20 is the area

How many times does the equation f(x)=2x^2+9x-5 intersect the x-axis
Komok [63]

Answer:

2

Step-by-step explanation:

f(x)=2x^2+9x-5

When we are find how many times it intersects the x axis, we are finding the zero's. Set the equation equal to zero

0=2x^2+9x-5

Factor the equation

0 = (2x+1) (x-5)

2*1

1*-5 = -5

2*-5 +1*1 = -9

This checks for the first last and middle terms so we factored correctly

Then using the zero product property

2x+1 = 0 and x-5 =0

2x = -1    x=5

x = -1/2  and x=5

This function crosses the x axis 2 times
