To solve a problem such as this we need to assign a variable to each value

Say like the number of tickets sold before the tournament

Number of tickets sold at the tournament door

Hence two variables are needed

Here we can see that the 3 rd option assigns x for the number of tickets sold before the tournament

and the 4 th option applies y for the number of tickets sold at the door

Hence these two options are the right variables for the given situation while the other options are irrelevant to the data given in the question
