Historians might need to describe a place on earth to differentiate it from another place on earth.

Humans have altered the landscape of the United States through mining, urbanization, building roads and structures etc, all of these fall into the category of westward expansion.

Physical and human features of an area impact the events that happen there, if I may give an example, the physical features of Russia support a cold climate which impacted events such as Napoleon's invasion of Russia.

anygoal [31]

Economic indicators are economic quantities, expressed in numerical value, that have as main purpose to measure the levels of development of countries, regions, companies, etc. (allowing, of course, comparisons).

It should be noted that, in the case of indicators relating to countries, regions or groups of persons, a broad range of economic indicators also include other social or demographic indicators.

Nutka1998 [239]

The Compromise of 1850 included a much harsher fugitive slave law. It also comprised all of the following, with the exception of Kansas, which joined the Union as a slave state.

A new, more stringent Fugitive Slave Law Congress enacted a harsh fugitive slave statute, requiring authorities in all states and territories to help in the recapture of enslaved persons who had fled to freedom or paid a significant fee.

As the political confrontation between abolitionists in the North and slaveowners in the South escalated, Congress approved the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, which imposed tougher sanctions for interfering with slaveowners' recovery of runaway slaves.

The legislation jeopardized the safety of all blacks, slave and free, and caused many Northerners to become more outspoken in their support for fugitives.

How did Casablanca deliver a political message?
faust18 [17]

Casablanca is an exploration of the universal themes of love and sacrifice, but when the film was released in 1942, audiences viewed it as a political allegory about World War II. The film is set in December 1941, the month in which the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. That attack changed the course of American history, awakening the nation from political neutrality and thrusting it into the midst of World War II. Casablanca tells the story of a similar, though much smaller, awakening. At the beginning of the film, Rick is a cynical bar owner in the Moroccan city of Casablanca who drinks only by himself and doesn't care about politics. By the end of the film, he has become a self-sacrificing idealist, committed to the anti-Nazi war effort. The event that prompts this change in Rick is the appearance of Ilsa, his old flame, in Casablanca. Ilsa's arrival is unexpected and devastating, and it hits Rick just as hard as the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor hit America. Once Rick overcomes the initial pain, his moral sense is reignited. He doesn't get to live happily ever after with Ilsa, but he accepts the necessity of his sacrifice and the heartbreak that accompanies it. I
