The perimeter of a rectangle is twice the sum of its side lengths.

P=2(L+W), we are told that L=3W and P=176 so

2(3W+W)=176

2(4W)=176

8W=176

W=22 ft, since L=3W

L=66 ft

So the yard is 22 feet wide and 66 feet long.

P = 2(L + W)
L = 3W
P = 176

176 = 2(3W + W)
176 = 2(4W)
176 = 8W
176/8 = W
22 = W <=== width

L = 3W
L = 3(22)
L = 66 <===length

Joe owns a stock which has probability .5 of going up. This morning, he bought a ticket in a lottery game which gives him a prob
Anit [1.1K]

Answer:

The probability that Joe's stock will go up and he will win in the lottery  is 0.00005.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the events be denoted as:

<em>X</em> = the stock goes up

<em>Y</em> = Joe wins the lottery

Given:

P (X) = 0.50

P (Y) = 0.0001

The events of the stock going up is not dependent on the the event of Joe winning the lottery.

So the events <em>X</em> and <em>Y</em> are independent of each other.

Independent events are those events that can occur together at the same time.

The joint probability of two independent events <em>A</em> and <em>B </em>is,

P(A\cap B)=P(A)\times P(B)

Compute the value of P (<em>X ∩ Y</em>) as follows:

P(X\cap Y)=P(X)\times P(Y)=0.50\times 0.0001=0.00005

Thus, the probability that Joe's stock will go up and he will win in the lottery  is 0.00005.

A collection of coins consists of nickels, dimes, and quarters. There are
iragen [17]

Answer:

  • 9 nickels
  • 12 dimes
  • 6 quarters

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given relations between the number of each kind of coin and the number of quarters. So, it is convenient to write an equation in terms of the number of quarters.

Let q represent the number of quarters. The number of nickels is 3 more than that, so is (q+3). The number of dimes is 6 more than the number of quarters, so is (q+6). The total value of the coins, in cents, is ...

  5(q +3) +10(q +6) +25q = 315

  40q +75 = 315 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . collect terms

  40q = 240 . . . . . . . . . subtract 75

  q = 6 . . . . . . . . . divide by 40

  q +3 = 9 . . . . number of nickels

  q +6 = 12 . . . number of dimes

There are 9 nickels, 12 dimes, and 6 quarters in the collection.

Theodore needs to mix a 10% fungicide solution with a 50% fungicide solution to create 100 milliliters of a 26% solution. How ma
solmaris [256]

Answer:

Therefore  40 milliliter of 50% fungicide solution is required

Therfore  60 milliliter of 10% fungicide solution is required

Step-by-step explanation:

i) Let the 10% fungicide solution have x milliliter and the 50% fungicide solution have y milliliter.

ii) Therefore 10x + 50y = 26(x + y)

                      x + y = 100

iii) form the first equation in ii) we get

                   16 x  = 24 y   Therefore x = \frac{24}{16} y = \frac{3}{2} y

iv) substituting the value obtained in iii) in the second equation in ii) we get

      \frac{3}{2} y + y = \frac{5}{2} y = 100

  Therefore y = 100 ÷ 2.5 =  40 milliliter

   Therfore x = 100 - 40 = 60 milliliter
