Answer-

She has 11 number of 52 cent stamps and 17 number of 34 cent stamps.

Solution-

Given that, Sally has six more 34 cent stamps as compared to 52 cent stamps.

Let us assume, she has x number of 52 cent stamps and then the number of 34 cent stamps will be x+6

Then, the worth of her stamps will be,

=(x\times 0.52)+((x+6)\times 0.34)

Given the fact that, her stamps amount to 11.50

\Rightarrow (x\times 0.52)+((x+6)\times 0.34)=11.50

\Rightarrow (0.52x)+(0.34x+2.04)=11.50

\Rightarrow 0.86x+2.04=11.50

\Rightarrow 0.86x=9.46

\Rightarrow x=\frac{9.46}{0.86}=11

Therefore, she has 11 number of 52 cent stamps and 17 number of 34 cent stamps.

Let x be the number of 52 cent stamps that Sally has and let y be the number of 34 cent stamps that she has.

Then,

52x + 34y = 1150 --- (1)

Also, she has six more 34 cent stamps than 52 cent stamps.

Therefore, y = x + 6

(1) becomes

52x + 34(x + 6) = 1150

52x + 34x + 204 = 1150

86x + 204 = 1150

86x = 1150 - 204

86x = 946

x = 11

and y = 11 + 6 = 17

Hence, Sally has eleven 52 cent stamps and seventeen 34 cent stamps.

ou decide to bake some cakes. You need 150 g of flour for 12 cakes. How much flour do you need for 30 cakes? g
Brilliant_brown [7]
Short answer: 375 grams

Remark
You only need to set up a direct proportion

Givens
flour for 12 cakes = 150 grams
Number of cakes initially = 12
Amount of flouer for 30 cakes = x
Number of cakes = 30

Proportion
amount flour for 12 cakes / 12 cakes  = x / 30

Sub and solve
150 grams / 12 cakes = x / 30 cakes  Cross multiply
150 * 30 = 12 *x                                  Multiply the left side.
4500 = 12 x                                         Divide both sides by 12
4500/12 = x
