<span>The glycolytic energy system gets activated when chemical reactions break down glucose. This chemical reaction turns glucose into a new compound called pyruvate. This is an anaerobic process but it does not directly utilize oxygen in the process. It is good for short and intense activities and this burst of energy only lasts at about two minutes.</span>
