When seeking enlightenment, a person is required to look over beyond fulfilling materialistic needs and finding the 'one truth' that brings you closer to divinity.

Seeking this type of thing could mean abandoning the responsibility that you have for the people around you. Which could technically make you a selfish person.

For example, obtaining monetary gain for your children is technically an act that seeks materialistic pleasures (which contradict the things that you need to do you achieve enlightenment). But that being said, it is your responsibility as a parent.
