statistics informed decisions A recent survey was conducted to compare the cost of solar energy to the cost of gas or electric e

nergy. Results of the survey revealed that the distribution of the amount of the monthly utility bill of a 3-bedroom house using gas or electric energy had a mean of $143 and a standard deviation of $8. If the distribution can be considered mound-shaped and symmetric, what percentage of homes will have a monthly utility bill of more than $135?

Answer:

84.13% of homes will have a monthly utility bill of more than $135

Step-by-step explanation:

When the distribution is normal, we use the z-score formula.

In a set with mean \mu and standard deviation \sigma, the zscore of a measure X is given by:

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

The Z-score measures how many standard deviations the measure is from the mean. After finding the Z-score, we look at the z-score table and find the p-value associated with this z-score. This p-value is the probability that the value of the measure is smaller than X, that is, the percentile of X. Subtracting 1 by the pvalue, we get the probability that the value of the measure is greater than X.

In this question, we have that:

\mu = 143, \sigma = 8

What percentage of homes will have a monthly utility bill of more than $135?

We have to find 1 subtracted by the pvalue of Z when X = 135.

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma}

Z = \frac{135 - 143}{8}

Z = -1

Z = -1 has a pvalue of 0.1587

1 - 0.1587 = 0.8413

84.13% of homes will have a monthly utility bill of more than $135

Find a common denominator. for example the third question is 2/3-2/5. the common denominator would be 15 because both are divisible by 15. since you multiply three, 5 times to get 15 you multiply 2 by 5 which is ten (new fraction is 10/15). then the other is 2/5 so same thing with the other one it takes three fives to get to 15 so its 2 times 3 which is six (new fraction is 6/15) you have to qual out each side. 10/15-6/15 is 4/15

Consider the algebraic expression:
GrogVix [38]
Coefficients are the numbers that are next to a variable(a letter in an expression). Therefore the coefficients would be 7 and 18 because they are both next to a variable (y and x).

I can’t exactly remember what a constant is but I think it is a number alone (not next to any variables) and they are ONLY separated by + and - not multiplication or division. In this case it would be all of the numbers that are in between the + or - (all of them.)

I also think a constant could be the variable next to the coefficient. Which would be y and x (next to 7 and 18).

I’m am so sorry I can’t remember what a constant is but I hope the coefficient helps:)

(-3, 1), (-17, 2) find the slope show the work
Verizon [17]

Answer:

1/-14 or -0.071428571428571

Step-by-step explanation

(-3,1) ___ -3 is x1 while 1 is y1

(-17, 2) ___ -17 is x2 while 2 is y2

slope formula is m = y2-y1/x2-x1

plug them in: m = 2-1/-17-(-3), which equals 1/-14 or -0.071428571428571
