The Dr. King uses an allusion when he refers to the Reverend Reinhold Niebuhr, who is an American theologian and professor and also a leading intellectual during the mid-20th century. The reverend Niebuhr wrote several influential books and there was one that addressed the morality of the individual versus the immorality of the society. He is also credited with writing the Serenity Prayer. Dr. King writes "History is the long and tragic story of the fact that privileged groups seldom give up their privileges voluntarily."

Hope this helps.

How does the author use paragraphs 30-31 to refine their ideas? Cite evidence in your answer.
eimsori [14]

Answer:

From paragraphs 30-31, the author refines their idea of the Declaration of Independence by revealing that their call for independence was because they were being oppressed by the British and have made several petitions for redress in a humble way, appealed to them for justice but they were being turned down and even maltreated for it.

Therefore, they rise up to be free and separate from the British.

Below are evidences that supports my answer:

From Paragraph 30:

<em>"In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury."</em>

From Paragraph 31:

"<em>We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends</em>."

Explanation:

The paragraphs are part of "The Declaration of Independence" which was written by Thomas Jefferson by the consent of the committee. It stated the clear reasons the people of America sought for independence from the British. The tyranny and injustice from the Prince was unbearable so they needed to separate.

Why were native Americans experiencing their own dark ages
STALIN [3.7K]

Answer:

War and violence. While epidemic disease was by far the leading cause of the population decline of the American indigenous peoples after 1492, there were other contributing factors, all of them related to European contact and colonization. One of these factors was warfare.

Who is Richard Wright talking about when he refers to “the lord of the land?”
nirvana33 [79]

The correct answer is the following.

When <em>Richard Wright is talking about the “Lord of the Land”</em> he is refefring to the owner of the fields where he used to work for. He refers that way he is leaving the place and he is heading North, to Chicago.

He literally describes it like this:<em> “We take one last furtive look over our shoulders to the Big House high upon a hill beyond the railroad tracks- where the Lord of the Land, and we feel glad for we are living.” </em>

Richard Wright wrote “The One-Room Kitchenette”. In the story, he describes the moments when he left the South where he used to live and work, in order to go North, looking for better opportunities. In a bitter-sweet manner, Wright he refers to what that meant to him and his family to leave that place and then arrive in Chicago where they lived in a one-room place in a tenement in Chicago.
