2. If there had not been a system of military alliances in place in Europe in 1914, would the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand have resulted in World War I? Explain your answer

This question is mostly a matter of opinion. In my opinion, it would not have resulted in World War I. The assassination of the Archduke created a conflict between Serbia and Austria-Hungary. However, because of all of the alliances in Europe at the time, many other countries were dragged into the conflict as well. So, if the alliances were not in place, the war would not have expanded across Europe and become a "World War."
