Sue has a crate, open at the top, in the shape of a cuboid. The internal dimensions of the crate are 36cm long by 36cm wide by 6

0cm high. Sue has a stick of length 90cm. She places the stick in the crate so that the shortest possible length extends out above the top of the crate. A) Calculate the length of the stick that extends out of the crate. B) Calculate the angle the stick makes with the base of the crate.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

When the stick is placed along the diagonal of the cuboid , shortest possible length will extend out above top of the crate .

Length of the diagonal

= \sqrt{36^2+36^2+60^2}

= 78.69 cm

the length of the stick that extends out of the crate

= 90 - 78.69

= 11.31 cm

If θ be the angle made by stick with the base

cosθ = hypotenuse of base / diagonal of cuboid

=\frac{\sqrt{2}\times36 }{78.69}

= \frac{50.90 }{78.69}

θ = 50°

2x – 5x + 16 = –3(x – 6)
lapo4ka [179]

Answer:

0

Step-by-step explanation:

2x – 5x + 16 = –3(x – 6)

2x - 5x + 16 = -3x + 18

-3x + 16 = -3x + 18

0x = 1

x = 0

A space shuttle travels at 2.6 x 10,000 feet per second. An hour is 3.6 x 1,000 seconds. This expression can be used to find the
guapka [62]

Answer:

7.22 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

From the question,

s = d/t................. Equation 1

Where s = speed of the space shuttle, d = distance traveled by the shuttle in an hour, t = time taken to travel the distance

make d the subject of the equation,

d = s×t.................... Equation 2

Given: s = 2.6×10000 feet per seconds, t = 1 hour =  3.6×1000 seconds.

Substitute these values into equation 2

d = (2.6×10000)/(3.6×1000)

d = 26000/3600

d = 7.22 feet.

Hence the shuttle travels 7.22 feet in an hour

Show how to solve the problem 378 x 6 using place value with regrouping. Explain how you knew when to regroup.
KIM [24]

Answer

2,268

Explanation

By grouping 378 can be written as,

378 = 300 + 70 + 8

6× 378 = 6 × (300 + 70 + 8)

             = (6×300) + (6×70) + (6×8)

             = 1800 +  420 + 48

              = 2,268
