Answer:

The toy chest hold 90 building blocks.

Step-by-step explanation:

A student made a toy chest for his baby sister's square building blocks.

In the box only six layers of blocks can fit and each layer has 15 blocks.

If a box can hold only 6 layers  and in each layer there is  15 blocks

To calculate the total number of building blocks we have to multiply 15 blocks to 6 layer.

so total blocks = 15 × 6 = 90 building blocks.

Or you can add 15 by 6 times. ( 15 + 15 + 15 + 15 + 15 + 15 = 90 )

The toy chest hold 90 building blocks.

zaharov [31]

The missing part of the question is "For what amount of driving do the two plans cost the same"

The amount of driving that do the two plans cost the same is 450 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

Isabel will rent a car for the weekend. She can choose one of two plans

  • The first plan has an initial fee of $46 and costs an additional $0.13 per mile driven
  • The second plan has an initial fee of $55 and costs an additional $0.11 per mile driven

We need to find for what amount of driving do the two plans cost the same

Assume that she will drive for d miles

The first plan:

∵ The initial fee is $46

∵ The additional cost is 0.13 per mile

∵ She will drive for d miles

- The cost of her trip is the sum of $46 and the product of

   0.13 and d

∴ The cost = 46 + 0.13 d ⇒ (1)

The second plan:

∵ The initial fee is $55

∵ The additional cost is 0.11 per mile

∵ She will drive for d miles

- The cost of her trip is the sum of $55 and the product of

   0.11 and d

∴ The cost = 55 + 0.11 d ⇒ (2)

∵ The cost of the two plans is the same

- Equate (1) and (2) to find d

∴ 46 + 0.13 d = 55 + 0.11 d

- Subtract 46 from both sides

∴ 0.13 d = 0.11 d + 9

- Subtract 0.11 d from both sides

∴ 0.02 d = 9

- Divide both sides by 0.02

∴ d = 450

The amount of driving that do the two plans cost the same is 450 miles

Nostrana [21]

We want to define and solve a linear equation to model the given case.

The answers are:

a) x = number of tickets, y = total cost.

b) y = $1.35*x + $6.35

We know that:

The tickets for each ride were $1.35 per ticket.

Paul purchased 30 tickets

He spent a total of $46.85 (on tickets and admission)

The cost for the 30 tickets is:

30*$1.35 = $40.50

a) Now we can define two variables:

y = total cost

x = number of tickets

b) the linear equation would be:

y = $1.35*x + P

Where P is the price of admission.

And we know that the total cost for 30 tickets is $46.85, then we have:

$46.85 = $40.50 + P

$46.85 - $40.50 = P = $6.35

So the admission price is $6.35

This means that the linear equation is:

y = $1.35*x + $6.35

c) Brief explanation, we have the variable y that represents the total cost, it is equal to the admission price (which we found) plus $1.35 times the number of tickets bought (x).
