Even though we don't know what the number is, we have to
give it some name, so that we have something to work with.

Now, 16 out of every 19 people will call the number ' X '.
But I like to call it ' M ' instead, for 'Mystery number'.

The mystery number . . . . .  M
The sum of the number and 8 . . .  M + 8
Half of that sum . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (1/2)(M + 8)
10 added to that sum . . . . . . . . .  (1/2)(M + 8) + 10

You said that the result is 30, so I can write:

                                       (1/2) (M + 8)  + 10  =  30

Now, subtract 10
from each side:              (1/2) (M + 8)           =  20

Multiply each side by  2 :         M + 8            =  40

Subtract  8 from
each side:                                 M                  =  32 .

Check to see if that's correct.
Take 32, and do everything to it that the question says:

The number . . . . . . . . . .  32  ?
The sum of the number and 8 . . .  32 + 8 = 40
Half of that sum . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (1/2)(40) = 20
10 added to that sum . . . . . . . . .         20 + 10  =  30

You said that the result is 30, and by golly IT IS !
So the mystery number is really 32.
yay !

10 + ( x+8 )/2 = 30

multiply all by 2
20 + ( x+8 ) = 60
x + 28 = 60
x = 32

Find four consecutive multiples of 3 such that the product of the first, third, and fourth is 1080
Dovator [93]

Answer:

<u>Therefore, we have 6, 9, 12, and 15, that are the first, second, third and fourth consecutive multiples of 3, such the product of 6, 12 and 15 is 1,080.</u>

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's find the factors of 1,080, as follows:

1,080 Dividing by 2 (1,080/2)

540 Dividing by 2 (540/2)

270 Dividing by 2 (270/2)

135 Dividing by 3 (135/3)

45 Dividing by 3 (45/3)

15 Dividing by 3 (15/3)

5 Dividing by 5 (5/5)

1

In consequence, we have:

5 * 3 * 3 * 3 * 2 * 2 * 2

Let's find out what multiples of 3 there are:

5 * 3 = 15 is a multiple of 3,

And 3 * 3 * 2 * 2 * 2 is remaining.

3 * 2 = 6 is also a multiple of 3,

And 3 * 2 * 2 is remaining

3 * 2 * 2 = 12 is also a multiple of 3.

<u>Therefore, we have 6, 9, 12, and 15, that are the first, second, third and fourth consecutive multiples of 3, such the product of 6, 12 and 15 is 1,080.</u>

One minute after it is released, a hot-air balloon rises 120 feet. In each succeeding minute, the balloon rises only 60% as far
MArishka [77]

Answer:

25.92 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

In the first minute, the hot air balloon rises 120 feet.

And it is given that, the balloon rises in a minute only 60% of the height it rose in the previous minute.

Therefore, in the second minute, the balloon rises by (120×0.6) =72 feet

And in the third minute, the balloon rises by (72×0.6) =43.2 feet

Hence, in the fourth minute, the balloon rises by (43.2 ×0.6) =25.92 feet (Answer)

The set of order pairs (-1, 8), (0,3) (1,2) and (2, -7) represent a function. What is the range of the function?
goldfiish [28.3K]
Answer: The range is the set {8, 3, 2, -7} which can be sorted to get {-7, 2, 3, 8}

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Explanation:

The range is simply the set of possible y values. All you have to do is list all the y coordinates and surround the values in curly braces. The curly braces indicate a set. Every point is of the form (x,y). The y coordinate is the second value listed of each ordered pair.

Order these numbers for lest to greatest 1/2 ,1.1 ,5/3 ,2, 0 ,0.4, -2 ,5/8
Nat2105 [25]

The least number should always start off with negatives if there are any. In this case there is so we can start with -2 as our least amount. Next are the small fractions. If you're allowed a calculator, I would use that to find what the decimals will look like for each fraction:

\frac{1}{2} =0.5\\ \\ \frac{5}{3} =1.6666666666666666666666666666667\\ \\ \frac{5}{8} =0.625

After -2 the next least number is 0 and the next one is the fraction or decimal closest to the number 0 which is 0.4

The next number would be from the fractions we solved earlier. 0.5 and 0.625 would follow 0.4 and then 1.1 and 1.6667(solved for from fraction).

Here is the list:

-2,0,0.4,\frac{1}{2} ,\frac{5}{8} ,1.1,\frac{5}{3}

Hope this helps!
