One hour of bicycle riding can require 500-900 kcal of energy, depending on the speed, the terrain, and the weight of the racer.

An individual wants to lose weight by riding at a modest effort, consuming 505 kcal of energy per hour. How many hours must he ride to lose 21.0 pounds of body fat? One gram of body fat is equivalent to 7.70 kcal of energy. There are 454 g in 1 lb.

Answer:

145 hours

Explanation:

Since one hour of riding a bicycle takes up 505 kcal of energy. It is also stated that one gram of body fat is equal to 7.70 kcal. Also, it is given that 1 pound of body fat is equal to 454 g.

Hence;

1 Ib= 454 g

21 Ib= 21 × 454/1 = 9534 g

But

1g of body fat = 7.70kcal

9534 g of body fat = 9534 × 7.70 kcal/1 = 73411.8 kcal

If 505 kcal is lost in 1 hour

73411.8 kcal is lost in 73411.8 kcal × 1hour/505k cal = 145 hours

Nuetrik [128]

Answer:

[ClO] = 3.48×10¯⁹ M.

Explanation:

The following data were obtained from the question:

Equilibrium constant (Kc) = 4.96×10¹¹

Concentration of Cl2O2, [Cl2O2] = 6x10¯⁶ M.

Concentration of ClO, [ClO] =.?

The equation for the reaction is given below:

2ClO(g) ⇌ Cl2O2(g)

The equilibrium constant for a reaction is simply defined as the ratio of the concentration of product raised to their coefficient to the concentration of the reactant raised to their coefficient.

The equilibrium constant, Kc for the reaction is given by:

Kc = [Cl2O2] / [ClO]²

Thus, we can calculate the concentration of ClO, [ClO] as follow:

Kc = [Cl2O2] / [ClO]²

4.96×10¹¹ = 6x10¯⁶ / [ClO]²

Cross multiply

4.96×10¹¹ × [ClO]² = 6x10¯⁶

Divide both side by 4.96×10¹¹

[ClO]² = 6x10¯⁶ / 4.96×10¹¹

[ClO]² = 1.21×10¯¹⁷

Take the square root of both side

[ClO] = √ (1.21×10¯¹⁷)

[ClO] = 3.48×10¯⁹ M

Therefore, the concentration of ClO, [ClO] is 3.48×10¯⁹ M.

Be sure to answer all parts. When baking soda (sodium bicarbonate or sodium hydrogen carbonate, NaHCO3) is heated, it releases c
ivolga24 [154]

Answer: 1. 2NaHCO_3\rightarrow Na_2CO_3+CO_2+H_2O

2. 100.8 grams

Explanation:

According to the law of conservation of mass, mass can neither be created nor be destroyed. Thus the mass of products has to be equal to the mass of reactants. The number of atoms of each element has to be same on reactant and product side. Thus chemical equations are balanced.

Balanced equation for the decomposition of the compound sodium hydrogen carbonate is:

2NaHCO_3\rightarrow Na_2CO_3+CO_2+H_2O

According to avogadro's law, 1 mole of every substance weighs equal to its molecular mass and contains avogadro's number 6.023\times 10^{23} of particles.

moles of CO_2=\frac{\text {given mass}}{\text {molar mass}}=\frac{27.0g}{44g/mol}=0.6moles

According to stoichiometry:

1 mole of CO_2 is produced from 2 moles of NaHCO_3

Thus 0.6 moles of CO_2 is produced from =\frac{2}{1}\times 0.6=1.2 moles of NaHCO_3

Mass of  NaHCO_3=moles\times {\text {Molar mass}}=1.2\times 84=100.8g

Thus  the mass of NaHCO_3 required to produce 27.0 g of  CO_2 is 100.78 grams.

Two plants growing close to one another are competing for resources. Which resource are they NOT likely to compete for? Choices
Neporo4naja [7]

Answer: the resource which they are not likely to compete for is CARBONDIOXIDE. The correct option is C.

Explanation:

Competition may be defined as the a negative effect on plant growth which occurs when there is reduction in the availability of resources.

During the growth of plants, there are several resources that affects it's growth and maintenance. These resources include:

--> soil nutrients,

--> water,

--> carbondioxide and

--> sunlight

Since plants are autotrophs, that is, they manufacture their own food through the use of inorganic raw materials such as water and carbondioxide in the presence of sunlight, there may exist some level of competition for these resources when there is lack of space.

But plants are NOT likely to compete for carbondioxide because the atmospheric pool of carbondioxide is large and well mixed, therefore it won't be affected by lack of space between the two plants. Unlike the other main resources such as soil nutrients and water which are highly competed for and can determine the distribution of plants in an ecosystem.
