<span>Under King's rule, civil war broke out. Eventually Charles was executed. His brother, a Catholic, succeeded him, James II. Mary, his daughter, and her husband took the throne after him. Parliament passed the Act of Settlement. So George, Elector of Hanover, Germany, became King but he did not care for ruling the country very much.</span>
