Elle ordered some large pizzas and some medium pizzas for a party. In all, she ordered 18 pizzas. Large pizzas cost $14, and med

ium pizzas cost $10. In all, she spent $204. Determine if each equation is a part of the system of equations that can be used to find the number of each type of pizza that was ordered. The variable x represents the number of large pizzas, and y represents the number of medium pizzas.

L+m=18, l=18-m

14l+10m=204 using l found above in this we get:

14(18-m)+10m=204

252-14m+10m=204

252-4m=204

-4m=-48

m=12, since l=18-m

l=6

So Elle ordered 6 large and 12 medium pizzas.

Solve the following system using substitution. Remember to record your answer as (x, y).
natta225 [31]

Answer:

You already have what you are going to substitute, just put the y values from the first equation into the second! Like this:

6x - 5(-2x - 9) = -19

Multiply it out:

6x +10x +45 = -19

Add like terms + simplify:

16x + 45 = -19

16x = -64

x = -4

take that x and put it back into the first equation!!

y = -2(-4) -9

y= 8-9

y= -1

so... your answer is (-4, -1)

hope this helps!

Maria, bill, and change sent a total of 71 text messages during the weekend. change sent 2 times as many messages as bill. maria
VLD [36.1K]
Alright, we're dealing with a few values here, so let's give them some labels to save us some trouble down the road. We'll call the number of messages sent by Maria m, the number sent by Bill b and the number sent by Change (is that a real name?) c. We don't know exactly what each number is, but let's take a look at what information they do give us.

Change sent 2 times as many messages as Bill, or, using our variable for Change and Bill:

c=2b

We're also given that Maria sent 7 messages more than Bill, which we can represent with:

m=b+7

Notice that m and c are both in terms of b. We can use this for our next step. We're given at the beginning that together, Maria, Bill, and Change sent 71 messages over the weekend. As an equation using all of our variables, this translates to:

m+b+c=71

Since m and c are both in terms of b, we can substitute those expressions in and solve for b:

(b+7)+b+2b=71\\ b+7+b+2b=71\\ 7+4b=71\\ 4b=64\\ b=16

Now that know that Bill sent 16 texts, we can find the numbers for Change and Maria:

m=b+7=16+7=23\\
c=2b=2(16)=32

So, Bill sent 16 texts, Maria sent 23, and Change sent 32.

(1) 34.8 liters

(2) $63.55

Solution:

(1) There is a mistake in question. It is 42 liters.

Total gasoline a car can hold = 42 liters

Liters of gasoline filled in beginning of the week = 35.8

Liters of gasoline used during the week = 28.6

Remaining liters of gasoline in the tank = 35.8 – 28.6

                                                                  = 7.2 liters

Quantity of gasoline need to buy to fill the tank completely

                               = Total capacity – Remaining gas in the tank

                               = 42 liters – 7.2 liters

                               = 34.8 liters

Hence Alberto need to buy 34.8 liters of gasoline to fill the tank.

Option B is the correct answer.

(2)

Shamika earns in first week = $25.75

Shamika earns in next week = $37.80

Total money Shamika have = First week earning + Second week earning

                                              = $25.75 + $37.80

                                              = $63.55

Don't add or subtract spending money, because the question is how much she have from these two weeks.

Hence Shamika have $63.55 from these two weeks.
