This action lowered morale. I know that it isn't the first one due to the fact that during the war they couldn't, and this is supported by when millions of dollars of cotton was stolen from the Confederates from the ports and given to the Union. That being said, it would put strain on the economy, no more export and import, supporting the other two, leaving only morale. Morale is a matter of opinion. Therefore, it can only be morale.
Raw cotton crops doubled each decade after 1800 because farmers grew nothing else. The cotton gin sped production and the "de-seeding" of cotton so much that the economy improved so farmers stuck with cotton.

Although it is true that every country is trying to preserve the forests, still the economic and social causes have gone against preservation of forests. In Latin American countries, this is a big problem. The cattle industry is regularly cutting down forests to feed the cattle and create new grazing lands.
