Contrast the expectations for the war across Europe with the reality of the war on the Eastern and Compare & Contrast the ea
Makovka662 [10]

The expectations of WWI by the countries involved were:

  • A quick decisive war.
  • Honor and glory on the battlefield.
  • Patriotism from their citizens.
  • Huge territorial gains.

This was very different from the reality of the war on the Eastern front where the following was noticed:

  • A long drawn out war.
  • A lot of death.
  • Mutinies from soldiers and rebellion in Russia.
  • Large scale loss of territory by the Russians.

The expectations of the War were therefore very different from the realities and it made people quite wary of war for years after the end of the first World War.

Differences between the Eastern and Western Fronts in WWI were:

  • There was more movement on the Eastern Front.
  • The Eastern front was larger.
  • The Western front saw more trench warfare than the eastern front.

In conclusion, the first World War was a dreadful affair.
