A particle moves along the x-axis. It is initially at the position 0.170 m, moving with a velocity of 0.190 m/s and acceleration

−0.240 m/s². Suppose it moves with constant acceleration for 3.60 s.
(a) Find the position of the particle after this time.
(b) Find its velocity at the end of this time interval.
Next, assume it moves with a simple harmonic motion for 4.50 s and x = 0 is its equilibrium position. (Assume that the velocity and acceleration is the same as in parts (a) and (b).
(c) Find its position.
(d) Find its velocity at the end of this time interval.

Answer:

(a)-0.701m

(b)-0.674m/s

Explanation:

Given a = -0.24,m/s² Xo = 0.170m, u = 0.190m/s

X = Xo + ut +1/2at²

X = 0.170 + 0.190×3.6 + 1/2×(-0.24) 3.6² = -0.701m

(b) its velocity at the end of this time interval is v

v = u + at

= 0.190 + (-0.24)× 3.6 = -0.674m/s

We can model a pine tree in the forest as having a compact canopy at the top of a relatively bare trunk. Wind blowing on the top
solmaris [256]

Answer:

114.075 N

798.525 Nm

Explanation:

C = Drag coefficient = 0.5

ρ = Density of air = 1.2 kg/m³

A = Surface area = 9 m²

v = Velocity of wind = 6.5 m/s

r = Height of the tree = 7 m

Drag equation

F=\frac{1}{2}\rho CAv^2\\\Rightarrow F=\frac{1}{2}\times 1.2\times 0.5\times 9\times 6.5^2\\\Rightarrow F=114.075\ N

Magnitude of the drag force of the wind on the canopy is 114.075 N

Toque is given by the product of force and radius

\tau=F\times r\\\Rightarrow \tau=114.075\times 7\\\Rightarrow \tau=798.525\ Nm

Torque exerted on the tree, measured about the point where the trunk meets the ground is 798.525 Nm

A uniform 1.4-kg rod that is 0.75 m long is suspended at rest from the ceiling by two springs, one at each end of the rod. Both
svetlana [45]

Answer:

7 deg

Explanation:

m = mass of the rod = 1.4 kg

W = weight of the rod = mg = (1.4) (9.8) = 13.72 N

k_{L} = spring constant for left spring = 59 Nm^{-1}

k_{R} = spring constant for right spring = 33 Nm^{-1}

x_{L} = stretch in the left spring

x_{R} = stretch in the right spring

L = length of the rod = 0.75 m

\theta = Angle the rod makes with the horizontal

Using equilibrium of force in vertical direction for left spring

k_{L} x_{L} = (0.5) W\\(59) x_{L} = (0.5) (13.72)\\x_{L} = 0.116 m

Using equilibrium of force in vertical direction for right spring

k_{R} x_{R} = (0.5) W\\(33) x_{R} = (0.5) (13.72)\\x_{R} = 0.208 m

Angle made with the horizontal is given as

\theta = tan^{-1}(\frac{(x_{R} - x_{L})}{L} )\\\theta = tan^{-1}(\frac{(0.208 - 0.116)}{0.75} )\\\theta = 7 deg

A ball rolls across a smooth surface at a steady 0.5 m/s. What is its acceleration? m/s^2?
kirza4 [7]

Answer:

0m/s²

Explanation:

The acceleration of the given body whose motion has been described will be zero.

This is because the body moves with a constant velocity.

Acceleration is defined as the rate of change of velocity with time.

Since in this problem, the velocity is not changing per time, then the acceleration would be zero.

A body moving steadily implies that such body is not changing its motion by the virtue of its velocity and even direction.

Use heavy-duty grounded extension cords. Heavy-duty cords will have a marking on the insulation such as ___.
Shalnov [3]

Heavy-duty cords will have a marking on the insulation such as letters which indicates its properties.

<h3>What are Heavy duty cords?</h3>

Heavy duty cords comprises of insulators which helps prevent cases of electric shock. There are usually letters written on them which indicates the nature of insulation and other properties.

For example, the  "S" in "SO" stands for "Extra Hard Service and the "O" stands for oil resistant.
