In order to determine whether two expressions are equivalent to one another, they are equated using an equals to sign (=) and then simplified. Upon simplification, the expressions should yield a logical and true statement. For example, a simplified expression may present
2 = 2
If such a case is present, then we know that the expressions are indeed equal. However, if the two sides are not equal, lets say
2 = 3
Then the expressions are not equal.

By verifying expressions, we are usually able to cross check our solutions to problems and also determine whether the answer(s) obtained makes sense.

Answer:

Substitute any value for the variable into both expressions and simplify using order of operations. If both expressions result in the same value, then they are equivalent. It is important to check one’s work to determine accuracy.

Find the gradients of line a and b
gayaneshka [121]

Answer:

Gradient of A: 2

Gradient of B: -1

Step-by-step explanation:

Gradient = change in y/change in x

✔️Gradient of A using two points on line A, (2, 5) and (0, 1):

Gradient = (1 - 5)/(0 - 2) = -4/-2

Simplify

Gradient of A = 2

✔️Gradient of B using two points on line B, (0, 5) and (5, 0):

Gradient = (0 - 5)/(5 - 0) = -5/5

Simplify

Gradient of B = -1
