The Industrial Revolution was the process of transition from craftmanship production methods to mass production systems and it led to the proliferation of factories. It ocurred in Europe and in the US at the end of the 18th century and during the 19th century.

In the US, the Northeastern regions developed significantly due to the establishment of a solid industrial network. Together with the flourishment of factories, also facilities were installed for other side-activities derived from the industrial manufacturing processes, such as means of transport, provision of water, electricity, etc.
