Near poor is used to refer to the category of citizens who are living on an income that is just barely above the poverty line. Worldwide, the number of people classified as near-poor has decreased over time, but this is due to an increase in the number of people that now fall below the poverty line. The cost of living keeps going up with increased global activities, and the same income that was sufficient for an individual or family in the past is now not sufficient; due to increase in child care cost, housing cost, food cost, cost of caring for the elderly, etc. Near-poor and poverty are a global threat, and global efforts are been put together to fight back the progressing trend.
