Find the third term of the geometric sequence when a1=1/4 and r=−2

Mathematics

Answer:

1 is the third term.

Step-by-step explanation:

Geometric sequences have a common ratio.  This means a term divided by previous term is the same no matter the choosing of term.

So for example:

\frac{a_{n}}{a_{n-1}}=\frac{a_{n-1}}{a_{n-2}}=\cdots=\frac{a_4}{a_3}=\frac{a_3}{a_2}=\frac{a_2}{a_1}

So anyways geometric sequences means you are just multiply the common ratio over and over to generate the next term.

So, the first term is 1/4.

The second term is (-2)(1/4)=-1/2.

The third term is (-2)(-1/2)=1.

Why is it helpful to write numbers in different ways
Goshia [24]
You should write numbers in as many ways as you possibly can to make new connections in your brain. Knowing how to write numbers in many different ways can help you solve complex problems more easily. Doing this can also reinforce the mathematical principles and logic you have memorised.

Writing one in many different ways:

1=1/1=2/2=3/3=4/4=(-1)/(-1)=(-2)/(-2)

=1.0=1.00=1.000=(1/2)+(1/2)=(1/3)+(1/3)+(1/3)

=(1/4)+(1/4)+(1/4)+(1/4)

Writing a half in many different ways:

1/2=(1/4)+(1/4)=(1/6)+(1/6)+(1/6)

=(1/8)+(1/8)+(1/8)+(1/8)=4*(1/8)

=2/4=3/6=4/8=5/10=0.5=0.50

etc...etc...
