It is also called asexual reproduction because asexual reproduction is the process of producing organism from a single parent. The entire organism as such is reproduced. Whereas in mitosis only the cell divides itself and forms two cells. mitosis occurs in asexual reproduction dividing the cells and in turn forming a new cell. Mitosis is a form of asexual reproduction because the exact copy of the parent cell is produced, only one organism is needed for it to occur.
Plants make their food in their leaves. And need sun for this process, so smaller and fewer leaves means less sun for photosynthesis, and it also means less food to nourish the plant.
