The intersection safety formula states: Know- to identify the type of intersection and its safety to go or not. Communication- such as indicators, signals, horns etc. Slow- to maintain a low speed and Go- to see if it is safe to proceed then go.

DMV or Department of Motor Vehicles creates the rules and regulations for controlling drivers and vehicles. The major areas where the vehicle must be ready to stop suddenly are road work zone, intersection, parking lot and pedestrian crossings.

Drivers must be always cautious while driving and be careful about certain aspects such as use common speeds, avoid highway hypnosis, use a common speed for driving, look at sequence in critical areas and use defensive driving.

Intersection safety is to be followed by all people who are driving specially by the local rural owners of the roads. It was found that more than 20% of all traffic fatalities occur at intersections. Majorly at un signalised intersections. The information on intersection safety issues must be identified and the due course of actions must be taken.

The information on process and procedure for improving the safety at unsignalized and rural intersections must be followed to reduce the number of potential crashes in future. The intersection can vary widely in size, number of turn lanes, number of entering legs and shape. When the two highways cross, there are four legs and this is one of the most common types of intersection. Intersections involve large number of turning movement between highways. The most severe crash at unsignalized intersection is the right-angle crash.

There is a requirement for the action plan to be implemented for intersection safety.

Some of the implementation approaches include comprehensive approach, systematic approach and spot location approach.

There should be uniform control devices used and low cost implementation of procedures must be followed to limit the number of crashes. Formal and specific highway driving training are required to be provided.
