The correct answer is B) The Union blockade kept many from arriving.

During the Civil War, the Union benefitted from a steady stream of new immigrants, some of whom fought in the war. The reason that kept the South from enjoying the same measure of help was that the Union blockade kept many from arriving.

The Union's Army blockade during the Civil War tried to impede the navigation to the Confederated States ports. This way, the Southern States could not receive supplies and could not trade the precious cotton with Europe.

President Abraham Lincoln started the blockade on April 19, 1861. The Union Navy had 450 or 500 navy ships patrolling the East Atlantic coast and the Gulf of Mexico. Only small ships could enter. Immigrants ships couldn't pass through the blockade and they also knew that many job opportunities were in the industries of the North, not in the plantations in the SOuth that used slaves.

Immigrants did not want to travel to the Confederacy given the limited employment opportunities it offered. majority of the immigrants traveled to the new world in search of greener pastures. employment was the first step towards improving their economic status in the new lands. The emergence of metropolitans in the north availed a wide array of employment opportunities ranging from white collar jobs to manual labor in its industries. Majority of the immigrants were unskilled and semi-skilled therefore the industries of areas like New York and Pennsylvania appealed to them. another segment of the immigrants settled in the North owing to the allure of cheap land. On the other hand, the South had limited employment opportunities as its economy was hinged on slave labor. Competing with free labor would be impossible. Similarly, the land in the South was expensive given that the inhabitants' primary economic activity was agriculture.

What were some of the main differences between the dutch, french, and english colonial efforts in the new world. (Explain in 3-5
Sedaia [141]

The Dutch and French approach to colonization were much different than English efforts. One area where this is evident is each groups relationship with Native American groups. The English consistently struggled with developing positive relationships with Natives, as the first permanent English settlement (Jamestown) saw constant fighting between the English and Powahatan Confederacy. However, the Dutch and French became allies with the Native Americans. The French were able to establish a very successful fur trade with the Huron tribe.
