The fossil record supports the work of evolution acting as evidence. Radiometric dating methods permits geologists in estimating the numerical or “absolute” age of several strata and its fossils.

Fossils can develop under ideal situations such as preservation, permineralization, molding (casting), replacement, or compression.

The attached image shows a fossil-containing strata. For instance, Fossils is a useful tool in determining the ages of layers of rock. Sections A and B shows rock layers 200 miles (320 km) separated from each other. Their ages can be determined by estimating the fossils of each layer.
