Businesses are required to provide reasonable physical accommodations to people with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

The ADA prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The Act aims to guarantee the same rights and opportunities to these people like everyone else.

The Act addresses business and private entities, among others.

In the Title III - Public Accommodations and Services Operated by Private Entities, the act states some provisions directed to businesses, in which inquires them to make reasonable modifications to their usual ways of doing things when serving people with disabilities, including physical accommodations, and it also inquires them to take steps necessary to communicate effectively with customers with vision, hearing, and speech disabilities.
