The correct answer is To establish military bases for use in further attacks

The conflict in the Pacific continued until September 1945, when Japan surrendered. Beginning in the second half of 1942, the United States began to win all major battles. The great battles after 1942 were:

Battle of Midway (June 1942): Japanese attempt to invade the Midway Islands. They were defeated by the American Navy, and Japan's war ability was permanently impaired after that battle.

Battle of Guadalcanal (August 1942 to February 1943): American invasion of Guadalcanal Island. The goal - successfully achieved - was to take over the island to prevent Japan from using it as an air base.

Battle of Tarawa (November 1943): American conquest of the island of Tarawa, which allowed the United States to use the island as a base and destroy Japanese aeronautics during 1944.

There were also significant American victories in the Philippines, Iwo Jiwa and Okinawa. However, Japanese resignation to fight to the death made it clear to American commanders that the invasion of Japan would result in thousands of deaths of American soldiers. From that conclusion, they chose to use a powerful weapon they had developed - nuclear bombs.

Two major cities in Japan - Hiroshima and Nagasaki - were chosen to be bomb targets. The attack took place on August 6, in Hiroshima, and on August 9, 1945, in Nagasaki. The complete destruction of the two cities forced the Japanese government to sign the unconditional surrender in September 1945. Japan's transition after the surrender was all carried out by the United States under the terms imposed on Japan.

How did john
serg [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

Standard Oil dominated the oil products market initially through horizontal integration in the refining sector, then, in later years vertical integration. The company was an innovator in the development of the business trust.

The Standard Oil trust streamlined production and logistics, lowered costs, and undercut competitors. "Trust-busting" critics accused Standard Oil of using aggressive pricing to destroy competitors and form a monopoly that threatened other businesses, due this gave standard oil and edge over competitors which kept the company in a pole position in the downstream oil and gas sector.

After the passage of the  Sherman Antitrust Act in 1890, standard oil was broken up in 39 different companies that are major players in the oil and gas industry till date, as thus controlling a larger percentage of world oil distribution and supply.
