Answer:

The mechanical energy of a pendulum is the sum of two types of energy:

- The kinetic energy (KE), which is the energy associated to the motion of the pendulum, and which is given by

KE=\frac{1}{2}mv^2

where m is the mass of the pendulum and v its speed;

- The potential energy (PE), which is the energy associated to the position of the pendulum, and which is given by

PE=mgh

where g is the acceleration due to gravity and h the height of the pendulum, relative to its equilibrium position

The mechanical energy is the sum of these two values:

E = KE + PE

And neglecting air resistance, the pendulum is an isolated system, so the mechanical energy remains constant:

E=const.

This means that the energy continuously converts from kinetic energy and potential energy, and viceversa.

In particular, at the following moments we have:

i. the moment at which it completes one cycle, just before it begins to fall back towards the other end --> potential

In fact, in this position the speed is zero, so the kinetic energy is zero.

ii. the moment that it is in the middle between the two ends --> kinetic

In fact, in this position the height of the pendulum is zero, so the potential energy is zero.

iii. just before it reaches the end of one cycle (just before instant i --> kinetic and potential

In fact, here the pendulum has not reached yet its maximum height: so, it is still in motion, therefore it still has kinetic energy and potential energy.

Which was least likely to have been a component of Earth’s atmosphere before life began?A-sulfurB-carbon dioxideC-oxygenD-water
Burka [1]

The correct answer is Oxygen.

The surface of the Earth was liquefied. As the Earth cooled, an atmosphere generated primarily from gases erupted from volcanoes. It constituted methane, hydrogen sulfide, and ten to 200 times as much as carbon dioxide in comparison to today's atmosphere.

It was considered that there was an extreme volcanic activity for the initial billion years of the existence of the Earth. The initial atmosphere was possibly majority carbon dioxide will no or little concentration of oxygen. There were slight quantities of ammonia, water vapor, and methane.

The __________ nerve connects with the auditory nerve to relay information to the brain about balance.
Drupady [299]

1. The given blank can be filled with vestibular nerve.

The vestibular nerve in humans conducts sensory information conducted by the vestibular hair cells situated in the utricle and the saccule, that is, the two otolith organs, and the three semicircular canals through the vestibular ganglion. It relays information to the brain about balance.

2. The correct answer is option b, that is, the vestibular sense may be capable of sensory adaptation.

The awareness of the movement and the balance of the body are controlled by the vestibular system. The vestibular senses, that is, the feelings of gravitation and movement and rotation of the body originate in the inner ear. The sense organs are the cells of the hair, which transmit signals over the auditory nerve.
