Answer:

62 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the height ( in inches ) of Ivan,

∵ Marcia is 5 inches shorter than Ivan,

height of Marcia = x - 5,

Marcia is  twice as tall as Sally-Jo,

height of sally-jo = \frac{x-5}{2}

Mom is 2 inches taller than Ivan.

⇒ height of mom = x + 2,

Mom is 3 inches shorter than Dad,

height of dad = x + 2 + 3 = x + 5,

So, mean height of family is,

\frac{x+x-5+\frac{x-5}{2}+x+2+x+5}{5}

=\frac{2x+2x-10+x-5+2x+4+2x+10}{10}

=\frac{9x-1}{10}

According to the question,

x + 5 = 74 ( 1 ft = 12 in )

x = 69

Hence, mean height of the family = \frac{9\times 69-1}{10}

=\frac{620}{10}

= 62 inches

The 3 × 3 matrix P satisfies the matrix equation P^2 = P.
riadik2000 [5.3K]

Answer:  The answers are given below.

Step-by-step explanation:  Given that a  3 × 3 matrix P satisfies the matrix equation P² = P.

We are to

(a) find the possibilities for the determinant of P.

(b) explain the reason behind there are no other possibilities.

(c) give an example of P, for each possible determinant.

(a) According to the given information, we have

P^2=P\\\\\Rightarrow P^2-P=0\\\\\Rightarrow P(P-I)=0\\\\\Rightarrow P=0,~~~P=I.

So, P can be either a zero matrix of order 3 or an identity matrix of order 3.

If P = 0, then det(P) = 0     and     if P = I, then det(P) = 1.

Therefore the possible determinants of P are 0 and 1.

(b) There can be any other determinant other than 0 and 1, because if so, then the given equation P² = P will not be satisfied.

(c) If |P| = 0, then the matrix P can be can be of the form as follows:

P=\left[\begin{array}{ccc}0&0&0\\0&0&0\\0&0&0\end{array}\right] .

If |P| = 1, the the matrix P can be of the form as follows :

P=\left[\begin{array}{ccc}1&0&0\\0&1&0\\0&0&1\end{array}\right] .

Thus, all the parts are answered.

A pole that is 3.2 m tall casts a shadow that is 1.45 m long. At the same time, a nearby building casts a shadow that is 36.5 m
Usimov [2.4K]
To solve this, use proportions. The height of the pole corresponds to the height of the building; the shadows are corresponding: 3.1/x =1/45.5
3.1 times 45.5=1x
141.05=x
The building is 141 meters tall
