Answer:

slope = rise / run  =  (vertical leg length)/(horizontal leg length)

Step-by-step explanation:

This is a very general question.

The best way is to think of the line as the hypotenuse of a right triangle.

where the endpoints of this hypotenuse are the 2 points on the line.

so   the slope = ( length of vertical leg of triangle) / (horizontal length of triangle)

for example if the two points  were  (1, 0)  and  (3, 5)

then   the vertical length of leg =  (5 - 0) = 5

and the horizontal length of leg = (3 - 1) = 2

so.  the slope =  5/2

The hypotenuse of a right triangle is 10cm long. The longer leg is 2cm longer than the shorter leg. Find the side lengths of the
Crazy boy [7]
We need Pythagoras theorem here
a^2+b^2 = c^2
a, b =  legs of a right-triangle
c = length of hypotenuse

Let S=shorter leg, in cm, then longer leg=S+2 cm
use Pythagoras theorem
S^2+(S+2)^2 = (10 cm)^2
expand (S+2)^2
S^2 +   S^2+4S+4  = 100 cm^2   [collect terms and isolate]
2S^2+4S =  100-4 = 96 cm^2
simplify and form standard form of quadratic
S^2+2S-48=0
Solve by factoring
(S+8)(S-6) = 0   means (S+8)=0, S=-8
or                                   (S-6)=0, S=6
Reject nengative root, so
Shorter leg = 6 cm
Longer leg = 6+2 cm = 8 cm
Hypotenuse (given) = 10 cm

xenn [34]

Answer:

The area of tarpaulin is 1315.63 ft^2.

Step-by-step explanation:

height, h = 20 feet

circumference, C = 102 feet

Let the radius is r.

Circumference, C = 2 x 3.14 x r = 102

r = 16.24 feet

Let the slant height is L.

L = \sqrt{h^2 + r^2}\\\\L = \sqrt{20^2 + 16.24^2}\\\\L = 25.8 ft

The curved surface area is

S = 3.14 x r x L

S = 3.14 x 16.24 x 25.8 = 1315.63 ft^2
