There is a 60 percent chance of low demand and a 40 percent chance of high demand. The corresponding (inverse) demand functions

for these two scenarios are P = 300,000 – 400Q and P = 500,000 – 275Q, respectively. Your cost function is C(Q) = 140,000 + 240,000Q. How many new homes should you build, and what profits can you expect?

Answer:

<u><em>New houses build =200 </em></u>

<u><em>Profit =$13,860,000</em></u>

Explanation:

In this particular question there are 2 scenarios for demand function,

i.e. (a.)  60 percent chance of low demand, P_{60}  = 300,000-400Q

 (b.)  40 percent chance of high demand, P_{40}  = 500,000-275Q

∴ Expected demand function = 60%×(300000-400Q) + 40%×(500000-275Q)

= 380,000-350Q

P_{D} =380000-350Q

Revenue = (380000 - 350Q)×Q = 380000Q - 350Q^{2}

Here, the no. of new homes build will depend on maximizing profit

∵ Profit = Revenue - Cost

π = (380000 - 350Q)×Q - (140000+240000Q)

π = 380000Q - 350Q^{2} -  (140000+240000Q)

In order to maximize profit , we will

\frac{\delta P_{\pi}}{\delta Q} = 0

\frac{\delta P_{\pi}}{\delta Q} = 380000-350*2*Q-240000

∴ 380000-350×2×(Q-240000) =0

Q=200

<u>So number of houses that they should build =200 </u>

π = 380000Q - 350Q^{2} -  (140000+240000Q)

π = 380000-(350×200^{2}) - (140000+(240000*200))

π =$13,860,000

New houses to be build =200

Profit =$13,860,000

Bond Yields and Rates of Return A 30-year, 10% semiannual coupon bond with a par value of $1,000 may be called in 4 years at a c
Nookie1986 [14]

Answer:

The bond's yield to maturity is 9.45% using Excel to get exact values, and 9.59% using approximate method.

Explanation:

We can calculate is using 2 ways, using Excel to get the exact percentage or with approximate methods, calculating the semi-annual Yield to Maturity using the following formula

YTM_{sm} =\cfrac{PMT+\cfrac{FV-PV}n}{\cfrac{FV+PV}2}

And from there we can calculate the Yield to Maturity just by multiplying the semi-annual one by 2.

Identifying the given information.

We have a period of 30 years, so for the semiannual bond we have n=2(30) = 60 periods.

The face value, FV, is $1000, the coupon rate is 0.10, thus we can use them to  find the interest per period PMT.

PMT=0.10 \times \cfrac{1000}{2}\\PMT=\$ 50

The current price of the bond, PV is $1050.

Replacing the values on the semiannual Yield to Maturity

YTM_{sm} =\cfrac{PMT+\cfrac{FV-PV}n}{\cfrac{FV+PV}2}

YTM_{sm}=\cfrac{50+\cfrac{1000-1050}{60}}{\cfrac{1000+1050}{2}}

Simplifying we get

YTM_{sm}=4.797\%\\

Finding the Yield to Maturity.

We can just multiply by 2 to get the Yield to Maturity from our previous result and rounding it to 2 decimals we get

YTM = 2 YTM_{sm}\\YTM=9.59\%

Alternatively we can use Excel and write:

RATE(n, PMT, PV, FV)*2

That is

RATE(60,50,1050,1000)*2

And we will get the exact Yield to maturity 9.49%

5)Prime cost= direct material + direct labor=43070+126300=$169370

6)Conversion costs = Direct labor + Manufacturing overhead= 126300+117600= $243900

7)Total period cost= manufacturing cost + Company advertising + Depreciation on salespersons' vehicles + President’s salary

Total period cost= 286970 + 24200 + 30600 + 76900= $418670
