When a parent cell splits into two daughter cells, it is mitotic cell division (Mitosis). So if the parent has four chromosomes and the daughter cells are identical, they will also each have four chromosomes. For example, we humans have 46 chromosomes, 26 of them from the mom and the dad.

HIV infection is mainly acquired through heterosexual relations, which themselves are greatly influenced by socio-cultural factors, underlying which are gender power imbalances. Unfortunately gender relations, and gender issues in general, have not been given much emphasis in the medical perspective, especially in efforts for prevention and control of HIV infection.
