Without calculating, explain how many decimal places are in the product 0.6 X0.4 X 1.9. Rewrite the expression as the product of
Vladimir79 [104]
There's only one decimal point in the answer. This is quite obvious. Regardless of whether or not your adding, subtracting, dividing, or multiplying, there's really only going to be one decimal, ever. This doesn't change, However, what DOES change are decimal PLACES.

Looking at the problem, you see both .6 and .4 are placed to the right of the decimal, otherwise known as the tenths place (1/10).

Looking at 1.9, you see you have one number (1) placed to the left of the decimal, the ones place, and another number placed to the right of the decimal (9), in the tenths place.

Well, this is simple. You can look and see that your multiplying fractions against a whole number, which will of course make this whole number even smaller. By how much though??

Well, you can really tell this by looking at how MANY numbers are behind the decimal. You have .9, .4, and .6

That's 3 numbers behind the decimal place. This may not help you solve the problem itself, but this tells you here (ignoring the 1, that will be taken out immediately while solving and turned into a 0) that you will have 3 numbers placed from the tenths place all the way to the thousandths place.

Basically, this tells you that you'll have three decimal places to the right of the decimal.

As for rewriting your problem to better show this, that's simple too.

All you have to do is simple multiplication, just in the tenths place. How? You know that 6*4 (referring to .6 and .4) is 24, that means that .6*.4 will be .24

How does this support your answer before? .24 has TWO numbers to the right of the decimal. That's TWO decimal places. With the .9 in 1.9, that's still THREE decimal places to the right of the decimal, and your answer would be the same.

So, here's it re-written.
1.9*.24=X

~Hope this helps!

Which shows a correct order to solve this story problem? Kent and Curtis went to the state fair. They had to pay a total of $7.1
KiRa [710]
The problem is asking how much each person will need to pay. Simplifying the problem into an equation with variables (an algorithm) will greatly help you solve it:

S = Sales Tax = $ 7.18 per any purchase
A = Admission Ticket = $ 22.50 entry price for one person (no tax applied)
F = Food = $ 35.50 purchases for two people

We know the cost for one person was: (22.50) + [(35.50/2) + 7.18] =
$ 47.43 per person. Now we can check each method and see which one is the correct algorithm:

Method A)
[2A + (F + 2S)] / 2 = [ (2)(22.50) + [35.50 + (2)(7.18)] ]/ 2 = $47.43
Method A is the correct answer

Method B)
[(2A + (1/2)F + 2S) /2 = [(2)(22.50) + 35.50(1/2) + (2)7.18] / 2 = $38.55
Wrong answer. This method is incorrect because the tax for both tickets bought are not being used in the equation.

Method C)
[(A + F) / 2 ]+ S = [(22.50 + 35.50) / 2 ] + 7.18 = $35.93
Wrong answer. Incorrect Method. The food cost is being reduced to the cost of one person but admission price is set for two people.

Select all of the situations that represent a linear relationship between x and y.
Harrizon [31]

Answer:

Linear relationship always produces a straight line and are without exponential.

Lets check all the given options:

1. the total area, in square meters, y, of a square garden if the side length is x meters.

The area of a square is

Here, side is 'x' and area 'y' will be .

This is not linear.

2. the height, y, of a 6-foot tree that grows 0.2 feet per month for x months

The equation forms:

When x = 1

When x = 2

=>

When x = 3

=>

This is a linear relation.

3. the total cost, y, of a ski rental from a company that charges $15 plus an additional $8 per day rented for x days

The equation forms:

When x = 1

When x = 2

=>

When x = 3

=>

This is also linear.

4. the total miles, y, traveled by a car going 62 miles per hour in x hours

The equation forms:

When x = 1

When x = 2

=>

When y = 3

=>

This is also linear in nature.

A paint shop stocks 1800 liters of paint 24% of the paint is white. The shops sells 18% of the white paint and 7% of the rest of
Anuta_ua [19.1K]

Answer:The amount of paint that was sold altogether is 173.36 litres

Step-by-step explanation:

The total amount of paint that the paint shop stocks is 1800 litres.

24% of the paint is white. It means that the amount of white paint would be

24/100 × 1800 = 0.24 × 1800 = 432 litres.

The amount of the remaining paint other than white would be

1800 - 432 = 1368 litres

The shops sells 18% of the white paint. This means that the amount of white paint sold by the shop will be

18/100 × 432 = 0.18 × 432 = 77.6 litres.

The shops sells 7% of the rest of the paint.

This means that the amount of the rest paint sold by the shop will be

7/100 × 1368 = 0.07 × 1368 = 95.76 litres.

The amount of paint that was sold altogether would be

77.6 + 95.76 = 173.36 litres
