Biochemistry question: Arsenate (AsO4 3- ) closely resembles inorganic phosphate (Pi) in structure and reactivity. In the reacti

on catalyzed by glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase, arsenate can replace phosphate in attacking the energy-rich thioester intermediate in the enzymatic mechanism. The product of this reaction is both thermodynamically and kinetically unstable leading to spontaneous hydrolysis of the acyl arsenate in the presence of water.
a) What is the net reaction of the reaction catalyzed by glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase in the presence of arsenate instead of Pi?

b) What would be the effect of arsenate on the energy generation of a cell? Describe your answer in terms of why arsenate is very toxic to most organisms.

Answer:

a) In the existence of arsenate, the net reaction will be:

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate + NAD+ + H2O → 3-phosphoglycerate + NADH + 2H+

b) The arsenate would result in the uncoupling of phosphorylation and oxidation by resulting in the generation of an acyl arsenate compound, which is extremely labile. The condition is also termed as arsenate poisoning. It is a condition, which results because of the enhanced concentration of arsenic in the body. In the condition, a person may experience abdominal pain, vomiting, watery diarrhea, and encephalopathy.

Plants move water from the roots of the plant to the leaves through transpiration. As water evaporates from the leaf, cohesion p
adoni [48]

Answer:

Stomata are the organs present on the stem and leaves of the plant and help in the gaseous exchange and evaporating water present in the aerial parts of the plant. Mainly leaves stomata plays role in gaseous exchange and transpiration which is the evaporation of the aerial water of plants by opening and closing the stomata. Stomata are small pores mostly and normally present under the leaves and regulated by the guard cells, dum bell shaped cells to close or close it.

Other than closing and opening the stomata, stomata density also can affect the rate of gas exchange as well as transpiration. Stomata density is the presence of the numbers of the stomata per unit area. In heat or sunny area the stomata density is higher than the shady or dark area to increase the transpiration in order to cool down the leaves of the plant which prevent the chloroplast proteins to denature.

explain why it is important to keep the levels of nucleotides relatively balanced in the context of dna and rna synthesis
juin [17]

Answer:

Read Below

Explanation:

Nucleotides are A & T and G&C you see in DNA and in RNA T is Replaced by U. The reason they must be balanced between G&C and T&A is because G has to bond with A in DNA and G with C so if there is more G than C that means there is mismatches between the DNA nucleotides same thing for A and T. In RNA you follow the same rule. If we have lets say 27% of our DNA as A we have to have 27% as T leaving 23% as C and 23% as G. If there was lets say 29% T while one 27% A then there was a error in DNA replication and could lead to errors in RNA synthesis if not corrected
