What other playing practices may lead to soil loss?

Answer:

1. Wind

When strong winds blow, the topsoil along with the organic matter is carried away by the wind. This happens more often when the land is not covered with grass or plants. Such conditions are very common in desert and semi-desert regions where strong winds blow very frequently.

2. Water

When it rains in the hilly areas, the soil gets washed away towards the plains. The running water deposits the mineral-rich soil in the riverbed and over the years this deposition of soil can change the course of the river. This can lead to floods which cause the destruction of life and property. Water erosion leads to loss of agriculture potential.

3. Overgrazing

When cattle are allowed to graze on the same field repeatedly, all the available grass, including the roots are eaten by them. This makes the topsoil vulnerable to wind and flowing water, leading to soil erosion.

4. Deforestation

Humans have taken land from the forest to cultivate in order to feed the ever-increasing population and to build houses, industries, etc. Cutting down of trees on a large scale for these purposes is deforestation. The roots of trees hold the soil together, thus preventing the soil from getting uprooted. When large areas of the forest are cleared, the topsoil gets eroded by wind and flowing water.

nirvana33 [79]

Answer:

C. 217

Explanation:

Mendel obtained the phenotypic ratio of 3 dominant: 1 recessive in the F2 generation of a monohybrid cross. According to the given information, inflated pods are dominant over the constricted one.

Let's assume that the allele C is responsible for inflated pods while the recessive allele "c" gives constricted pods. A cross between two pure breeding plants with inflated (CC) and constricted pods (cc) would give all the plants with inflated pods (Cc) in the F1 generation. A cross between two F1 plants would obtain F2 generation in following ratio=3 Inflated: 1 constricted.

Therefore, if 650 plants with inflated pods were obtained in the F2 generation, 217 plants must have constricted pods since 650:217 is almost equal to 3:1.

Most likely the students are using a crude measurement of time, like a stopwatch. They would get the best results with a scientific apparatus that uses a computer and optical sensors. Even recording their dropped objects with a video camera and analyzing the video would give more consistent results. Results will also vary greatly if different people are taking the time measures instead of one person making all measurements.
