A truck that can carry no more than 7500 lb is being used to transport refrigerators and upright pianos. Each refrigerator weigh

s 200 lb and each piano weighs 425 lb. Write and graph an inequality to show how many refrigerators and how many pianos the truck could carry.
I don't know how long it takes for people to answer or if I can take a question down if it's too late or I already have the answer, but I need it tonight!!

Answer:

  • 200x +425y ≤ 7500
  • see below for a graph

Step-by-step explanation:

If x represents the number of refrigerators on the truck, then 200x is their total weight in pounds.

If y represents the number of pianos on the truck, then 425y is their total weight in pounds.

The total weight in pounds of refrigerators and pianos on the truck will be ...

  200x + 425y

We want this weight to be at most 7500 pounds, so the limit the truck can carry is given by the inequality ...

  200x + 425y ≤ 7500

____

The graph of this will include negative values of x and y, but the reasonable domain of the inequality does not include those. Consequently, we have restricted the shading (solution region) to non-negative values of x and y.
