A concentration cell is one in which both the anode and cathode are the same but with different concentrations. Calculate the ce

ll potential with [Zn2+] = 0.10 M[Zn2+] = 0.10 M for the cathode and the [Zn2+] = 0.010 M[Zn2+] = 0.010 M for the anode?

Answer: 0.029 V

Explanation:

For the given chemical reaction :

Zn^{2+}(0.10M)(aq)+Zn(s)\rightarrow Zn^2+{0.010M)(aq)+Zn(s)

Using Nernst equation :

E_{cell}=E^0_{cell}-\frac{2.303RT}{nF}\log\frac{\text {anodic ion concentration}}{\text {cathodic ion concentration}}

where,

F = Faraday constant = 96500 C

R = gas constant = 8.314 J/mol.K

T = room temperature =  298 K

n = number of electrons in oxidation-reduction reaction = 2

E^0_{cell}  = standard electrode potential of the cell = 0 (as both metals are same )

E_{cell}  = emf of the cell = ?

E_{cell}=0-\frac{2.303\times 8.314\times 298}{2\times 96500}\log\frac{0.010}{0.10}

E_{cell}=0.029V

Thus the cell potential will be 0.029 V

1. Here is a chemical equation: C2H2 + O2 → CO2 + H2O
Evgen [1.6K]

Answer:

1)  a) 2 C2H2 +  3O2 -->  2CO2 +  2H2O

b) Combustion Reaction

c) Bonds will be broken on the reactant side which will require energy.

d) It agrees with the law of conservation of mass because there are the same amount of molecules of each element on both sides of the equation, meaning mass was not created nor destroyed.

2) a) 2Na + Cl2 --> 2NaCl

        Synthesis

   b) 2Fe + O2 --> 2FeO

Write electron configurations for the following ion: Cd2 Cd2 . Express your answer in order of increasing orbital energy. For ex
Mashutka [201]

Answer:

Cd2+ : 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d10 4p6 4d10 or [Kr] 4d¹⁰

Explanation:

Before proceeding to write out the electron configuration of Cd2+, we have to obtain the electron configuration of Cadmium (Cd),

Cadmium has an atomic number of 48, this means that a neutral cadmium atom will have a total of  48  electrons surrounding its nucleus.

The electronic configuration of Cadmium is;

Cd: 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d10 4p6 5s2 4d10

The shorthand notation is given as;

Cd: [Kr] 4d¹⁰5s²

Cd2+ means that it has two less electrons, hence it's electron configuration is given as;

Cd2+ : 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d10 4p6 4d10 or [Kr] 4d¹⁰

Which phrase best describes bronze?
11111nata11111 [884]

Answer:

o A copper-tin alloy

Explanation:

  • <u>Bronze is composed by copper and tin.</u> This means it is not a pure metal.
  • <u>Bronze cannot be mined</u>, so it is not a mineral ore.
  • An ionic compound of copper and tin could also be theoretically used to describe a <em>non-solid </em>ionic compound of copper and tin. However bronze is solid.
  • Hence the answer is <em>A copper-tin alloy</em>.

According to the phase diagram for water, how is the state of water determined?
joja [24]

Explanation:

From the attached phase diagram, one can easily make out the phase in which water exists. Matter generally exists in three physical states which are solid, liquid and gas. Water is a unique compound that can exists in these three states at a given temperature and pressure.

From the attached phase diagram,

  1. point O is the triple point where the three phases of pure substance co-exists.
  2. The areas between the curves points at a single phase of matter. Y is a water vapor.
  3. The lines on the curve denotes two equilibrium phases. For example; X is a phase contain ice and melt water.
