The correct answer is D) people in the south welcomed the decision while people in the North feared.

The other options of the question were A) people in both, the north and the south agreed with the court decision. B) people in neither the north nor the south, agreed with the court decision. C) people in the north welcomed the decision while people in the south feared.

The public generally reacted to the Supreme Court’s ruling on Scott v. Sandford in that "people in the south welcome the decision while people in the North feared."

We are talking about the Supreme Court case Dred Scott v. Sandford decided on March 6, 1857. The decision of the Supreme Court was that the African American Dred Scott was not considered to be a citizen of the United States because he was a black slave. So he had no right to appeal to the US Constitution for protection. He was not considered a person, he was considered property. People in the north feared and disagreed with the decision. They supported abolitionism while southerners supported slavery because their economy depended so much on slaves.

The modern evolutionary synthesis leaves unresolved some of the most fundamental, long-standing questions in evolutionary biology: What is the role of sex in evolution? How does complex adaptation evolve? How can selection operate effectively on genetic interactions? More recently, the molecular biology and genomics revolutions have raised a host of critical new questions, through empirical findings that the modern synthesis fails to explain: for example, the discovery of de novo genes; the immense constructive role of transposable elements in evolution; genetic variance and biochemical activity that go far beyond what traditional natural selection can maintain; perplexing cases of molecular parallelism; and more.
