Does active transport describe diffusion

Diffusion does not require any energy because it occurs down a concentration gradient. This means it goes from one side which has a high concentration of a particular molecule, to another side with a low concentration of this molecule. This is a passive act, requiring no energy input from the cell because it simply equalizes the concentrations of the molecules on both sides of a membrane. Simple ion channels are in place for diffusion, and the molecule diffuses to the less concentrated side simply and without the need for ATP being broken down for energy.

Active transport on the other hand, does exactly the opposite. Molecules to be actively transported will go from a side in which they are less concentrated to a side in which there is already a high concentration of them, so against the concentration gradient. This process requires energy- if you think of cramming more objects into an already stuffed room, more energy and force is needed to push them into that crowded space.

Active transport therefore requires energy in the form of ATP to be released for the transport to take place, and is usually mediated via special transport channels which bind the molecule and transport it to the other side, with the cost of ATP being broken down to release energy.

To visualize this: it is easier to go down a slide, than it is to climb up it. Molecules in diffusion slide down the slide to the other side, but have to be actively transported up the slide by a helper (transport channel), with energy.

Celiac disease causes the destruction of the villi cells. Which of the following is most likely to happen to people with celiac
Karolina [17]
They lose the ability to gain nutrients.

Hence, people with celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten. Gluten is a type of protein found as nutrient in food and is released to the digestive system. When the body receives food that contains gluten (e.g. wheat, rye, and barley) the immune systems responds and attacks the small intestines. In the event of this, the linings of the small intestine called villi are damaged. When the villi get damaged, the body cannot properly absorb nutrients.

What kingdom is made of organisms that are eukaryotic, plant-like, do not move, and do not carry on photosynthesis?
dlinn [17]

I believe it's fungi.

Explanation:

- Fungi and plants have similar structures. Plants and fungi live in the same kinds of habitats, such as growing in soil.

-Fungi are not capable of photosynthesis:

-Fungi can't move around so they make spores that are like seeds

In what ways are mammalian lungs adapted for their fuction?
blsea [12.9K]

Answer: The lungs are well supplied with blood due to lots of capillaries covering the alveoli, constantly maintaining a large diffusion gradient, air is able to pass easily down this gradient due to the alveoli having very thin walls (one cell thick).

                     or

The alveoli are adapted to make gas exchange in lungs happen easily and efficiently. Here are some features of the alveoli that allow this: they give the lungs a really big surface area. they have moist, thin walls (just one cell thick)

Hope this helps......... Stay safe and have a Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Given the number of oscillations a wave completes in a period of time, you can determine the amplitude. wavelength. frequency. e
Advocard [28]
I believe it is the frequency, because when a oscillation occurs that is the starting point to determine when another wave is to come.
