From the above list, the example of a metaphor is  'She offered him a hundred-watt smile.' In this sentence, we compare her smile with a hundred-watt bulb, which means a bright smile. Her smile has a common characteristic with a hundred-watt bulb.

Metaphor is a figurative language that used to compare two different things that do not usually go together but has a common characteristic A metaphor makes an implicit or hidden comparison.  

<u>Here are examples of metaphor: </u>

  1. You are my sunshine.
  2. Her voice is music to his ear.
  3. Laughter is the best medicine.

In the first example, you are my sunshine. We use this comparison to describe an association of sunshine with that person.

The other figurative language use for comparison is a simile. Unlike metaphor, the simile compares the two things directly uses the word 'as' and 'like.' <u>Here some examples of simile: </u>

  1. You are like a sun to me.
  2. Like unto death was her countenance .

Figurative language uses a figure of speech to describe something beyond their literal meaning. Another type of figurative languages including personification, hyperbole, assonance, paradox, irony and etc.

The correct answer is B, because the smile isn't really made out of a hundred watts, but it is so bright so it is described that way. Metaphor is a form of comparison, but words such as 'like' and 'as' aren't used in it.
