1. the land size of the USSR: The sheer size of the USSR meant that it would have taken years for Germany to have conquered every inch of the land, which would be costly in resources, money, troops, as well as equipment

2. Russian winter: The German army was not prepared for the winter of Russia, and, dressed in summer uniform (as they invaded during the summer), many froze to death.
