Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin's 108-minute orbit of the Earth on April 12, 1961, made Russia the first nation to both put a human in sp

ace, and into orbit. On his experience in space, Gagarin reported that he saw objects floating in the cabin and that he himself was unable to remain seated in his chair, but was hanging in the air. This effect is called weightlessness, which occurs due to the zero gravity conditions in space.
John Glenn was the first American to orbit the Earth and was put into orbit in February 1962. He orbited the earth three times before landing successfully. Other astronauts including Alan Shepard, Jr., Scott Carpenter, and Virgil Grissom followed John Glenn to become the first set of Americans to make space flights. Later in 1962, the American astronaut Walter M. Schirra Jr. , and Russian cosmonauts Andrian G. Nikolayev and Pavel R. Popovich were launched to orbit the earth. The first woman in space was a Russian, Valentina Tereshkova. She made forty-eight orbits of the earth before returning safely.
On May 25, 1961, the race to reach the moon was made public when President John F. Kennedy of the United States declared, "I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth. "
On July 16, 1969, the Apollo 11 moon mission was launched. Four days later, on July 20, the great dream was realized when Neil Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon. Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin were with Armstrong, and they became the succeeding humans to step on the moon.

According to MLA guidelines, which of the following best summarizes what is written about moon landing in this passage?
A.
President Kennedy believed in the possibility of landing on the moon, and was proved right in 1969 by three American astronauts (People in space, Howard).
B.
Apollo 11, which was launched on July 16, 1969, became the first successful manned mission to enter space and land on the moon (Howard).
C.
The American dream of landing on the moon and exploring it was finally fulfilled in 1969 by astronaut Neil Armstrong in the Apollo 11 mission (Howard 62).
D.
Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin Aldrin left on the Apollo 11 spacecraft and landed on the moon on July 20, 1969 (People in space 62).

Answer:

The correct answer is C: The American dream of landing on the moon and exploring it was finally fulfilled in 1969 by astronaut Neil Armstrong in the Apollo 11 mission (Howard 62).

Explanation:

According to MLA guidelines, we should provide some information about the source, normally the author's last name and a page number. Therefore, option C would be considered as the only correct answer, because it summarizes what Howard wrote about moon landing with correct In-Text citations.

The option B cannot be considered as a correct answer, because it does not contain a page number, which is necessary for a correct summarizing what somebody else wrote or published.

Option A cannot be considered as a correct answer, because a citation should not contain the name of the book (source of the information) and it does not contain a page number.

The option D cannot be considered as a correct answer, because it does not contain the author's last name. To make it correct, we should add the author's last name (Howard) and remove the name of the source.

Answer:

These lines support the theme that the speaker can see herself differently than others see her in the sense that:

4. They show that the speaker is unsure of who she is, even though others seem certain.

Explanation:

The speaker in the poem "Escape" is telling us that she does not know who she is. Others describe her as confident, as person who knows what she is doing and why she is doing it. However, she does not see herself that way. The speaker fails to see the power and the confidence others attribute to her. Therefore, we can safely say she sees herself differently because others seem certain of who she is, but she herself is not certain at all.
