There are many ways we can do to enhance our oral communication skills in an international environment. Whether we are a native speaker or not, enhancing oral communication skill in the international environment is very important.

EXPLANATION:

Communication skill is the top list of fundamental needs to succeed in the workplace. It is key if someone wants to be successful. Communication skill in the workplace requires us not only able to speak in English but also uses it to effective communication skill. Being able to speak in English doesn’t mean that you are great enough in the international environment.

Yet, able to speak in English and know how to use it to create effective communication with other people who speak in a different language is what it means by communication skill in the international environment.

Here are how we can enhance our communication skill in an international environment:

1. Listen to other people who talk to us

It matters to not only hear but listen to the people whom we are talking to because everyone wants to be heard. In the international environment where there is a big chance we have to talk to people who don’t speak English, it is important to listen to what they say in English although maybe they speak it unclearly.

2. Know whom we are talking to

In international environment, we have to be careful with our language especially when we talk to various people. Talking to a teammate is different from talking to the boss. We can’t use informal language to the boss as his position is higher than us. Yet, we have to use formal language to the buddy in the team when it comes to discussing a project or business.

3. Brief and specific speaking

Try to be an effective speaker who knows the audience or the person whom to talk to. Try to deliver a speech which is brief yet specific. Give enough information which includes the points we want to deliver. When we say too much, people just won’t get our points.

4. Treat anyone equally

Don’t underestimate people who don’t speak English or judge their English is not good enough when we are in an international workplace or international environment. Treat everyone and anyone equally, don’t judge their language, don’t talk down to everyone, treat anyone with respect, and be a kind speaker.
