Explanation:

As the Jamestown colony became more established, the settlers grew tobacco and sold it as a cash crop. This brought more prosperity to the settlement and the colony grew. Initially however and in the early days of the settlement, the settlers had to concern themselves with their own sustenance and they grew corn, squash, and beans.   As they were able to build up the community and assure supply and stores through the winters and harsh months, they were better able to start diversifying their economy and to plant large amounts of cash crops like tobacco.

There is an irrelevance because the argument is against to the person making a claim, rather against to the claim itself. An example is judging a person's social status or attitude, like calling his strategies aren't effective to finish a certain task because of his untidiness and laziness.
