Write the equation of a hyperbola with vertices at (1,1) and (9, 1) and foci at (0, 1) and (10, 1).
Leni [432]

Answer:

Standard form of equation for a hyperbola with horizontal transverse axis:

(x-h)^2/a^2-(y-k)^2/b^2=1, (h,k)=(x,y) coordinates of center

For given hyperbola:

x-coordinate of center=(9+1)/2=5 (use midpoint formula)

y-coordinate of center=1

center: (5,1)

length of horizontal transverse axis=8 (from 1 to 9)=2a

a=4

a^2=16

..

Foci

2c=9 ( from 1 to 10)

c=4.5

..

c^2=a^2+b^2

b^2=c^2-a^2=20.25-16=4.25

..

Equation of hyperbola:

(x-5)^2/16-(y-1)^2/4.25=1

How many revolutions will a car wheel of diameter 22 in. make as the car travels a distance of one mile
Marianna [84]

It would be take upto 999 revolutions.

Let try to solve it,

Let n represent number of revolutions.

We are asked to find the number of revolutions it will take for a car wheel of diameter 30 in. to travel a distance of one mile.

1 mile = 63360 inches.

We will use circumference of circle formula to solve our given problem.

Circumference = pi*d , where, D represents diameter of circle.

Now, we will set the product of n and circumference of circle equal to 63360 inches as:

pi*22*n= 63360

n= 63360*7/ 22*22

n= 443520/444

n= 998.91

Therefore It would be take upto 999 revolutions.

What is the slope of a line perpendicular to the line whose equation is 2y=-6x+8
Effectus [21]

2y=-6x+8

First, the slope of any equation, is always the coefficient with the variable "x".

So, the slope for this line, is -6x.

To get rid of the coefficient with y, we need to divide 2, from both sides of the equal sign.

2y=-6x+8

      2

y=-3+4

Now that we have our new equation, we can see that the slope of our line has also changed, from -6x to-3x. Because -6÷2=-3.

And to find the perpendicular slope, you change the reciprocal of the slope so from -3 to 1/-3 and then you change the sign of the slope so from 1/-3 to 1/3. That is your final answer.

The answer is 2) 1/3.
