Ed is planning daily walking workouts on the same distance of 12 km in the morning and in the evening. Usually he is walking at

constant rate, however he planned his rate to be 1 km/h more in the morning than in the evening. Given he is willing to spend 5 hours and 24 minutes daily on these workouts, what should his morning rate be, in km/h?

Let the rate of walking in the evening be = x km/h

As Ed wants to walk at a rate if 1 km/h more in the morning, then rate in morning becomes = x+1 km/h

So, distance is 12 km, speed is x+1 km/h

time=\frac{distance}{speed}

Total time is = 5 h 24 m or convert it into hours, it becomes 5.4 hours

Time in morning becomes =\frac{12}{x+12}

Time in evening becomes =\frac{12}{x}

So equation becomes= \frac{12}{x+1}+\frac{12}{x}=5.4

Solving this quadratic equation, we get, x= -5/9 or x=4

As X cannot be negative so neglect -5/9.

Solving by using x=4, we get rate as x= 4+1 =5 km/h

Hence, rate in the morning is 5 km/h.

Calvin wants to buy a car alarm that has a full price of $325, plus a 12% sales tax. Which is the better offer, a 35%-off sale o
tester [92]
First calculate the total price of the car alarm
P = 325 + 0.12(325)
P = $ 364 is the total prize of the car alarm

then calculate the discounted price
35%-off sale
P = 364( 1 - 0.35)
P = 364(0.65)
P = $ 236.6

$ 100 coupon
P = 364 - 100
P = $ 264
so it is better to have the 35%-off sale
so the answer is A

you are building a rectangular wading pool you want the area of the bottom to be 90 ft squared you want the length of the pool t
Sindrei [870]
L=2W+3, A=LW, using L from the first in the second gives you:

A=(2W+3)W

A=2W^2+3W, and we are told A=90 so

2W^2+3W=90

2W^2+3W-90=0

2W^2-12W+15W-90=0

2W(W-6)+15(W-6)=0

(2W+15)(W-6)=0, since W>0 for all real possibilities,

W=6ft, and since L=2W+3

L=15ft

So the pool will be 6 ft wide by 15 ft long.
