  This percentage is according to note Number 243 published on Apil 2001 by the NHTSA.

  It conducted a study along with the NASS to examine crashes and determine the drive behaviors that led to the accidents. They collected data from four different sites from 1996 to 1997 and interviewed drivers and occupants involved in crashes.

  Causal factors were responsible for the 96.5 percent of the accidents and within that 22.7 percent because of the driver´s inattention.
