B=6 i believe! if you use the pythagorean theorem (a^2+b^2=c^2) then you should be able to turn 8^2 and 10^2 into 64 and 100, respectively. 100-64=36 and the square root of 36 is 6. you can plug it in by calculating 8^2 + 6^2, which equals 100! hope this wasn't too confusing XD
-2x^2 - 5x - 7 - (5x^2 - 2x - 5) -- Set up the equation and distribute the negative
-2x^2 - 5x - 7 - 5x^2 + 2x + 5 -- Combine like terms
-7x^2 - 3x - 2 -- Answer!
Hope this helps!! :)
If you have a calculator with log and expo function capabilities, type in:
log 16.7 ENTER
and the calculator will return 1.2227. Try it.
![\rm \dfrac12=\dfrac{a+b}{a-b}](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=%5Crm%20%5Cdfrac12%3D%5Cdfrac%7Ba%2Bb%7D%7Ba-b%7D)
Let's multiply both sides by 2,
![\rm 1=2\dfrac{a+b}{a-b}](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=%5Crm%201%3D2%5Cdfrac%7Ba%2Bb%7D%7Ba-b%7D)
and then multiply both sides by (a-b),
![\rm a-b=2(a+b)](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=%5Crm%20a-b%3D2%28a%2Bb%29)
distribute the 2,
![\rm a-b=2a+2b](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=%5Crm%20a-b%3D2a%2B2b)
add b to each side,
and subtract 2a from both sides,
![\rm a-2a=b+2b](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=%5Crm%20a-2a%3Db%2B2b)
![\rm -a=3b](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=%5Crm%20-a%3D3b)
![\rm a=-3b](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=%5Crm%20a%3D-3b)
divide by b to find the ratio,
![\rm \dfrac{a}{b}=-3](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=%5Crm%20%5Cdfrac%7Ba%7D%7Bb%7D%3D-3)
Hope that helps! :)
